JOB TITLE: ACADEMIC SUCCESS FACILITATOR/TEACHER

Part-Time 15 hours a week

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB



NATURE OF WORK

The Academic Success teacher will work directly with administrators and 

counselors to identify students that need additional academic support.  The 

teacher will provide students with the necessary support and resources in order 

to get back on-track to their appropriate grade level and graduate on time.  The 

teacher will communicate and collaborate with various teachers throughout the 

building to make sure students are meeting expectations in their classes.  The 

goal is to have all freshmen earn the required credits needed to advance to 

sophomore level status; assist all sophomores and juniors that are off-track for 

graduation to get them back on-track; make sure all seniors meet the necessary 

requirements  to graduate at the end of the year.  The teacher will work under the  supervision of the principal or designee.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Build strong relationships with students.
  • Teach basic character and work related skills needed to be successful.
  • Help students with basic structure and organizational skills.
  • Provide additional academic support to students.
  • Plan, design, and provide a positive learning environment for all students.
  • Track data on the growth and development of students
  • Work with counselors on what is needed to get students on track for graduation.
  • Create an Academic Success Plan for each student.
  • Complete weekly one on one conferences with each student on their progress.
  • Other duties as assigned, including professional development and meetings that relate to job duties. 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Curriculum and Instruction experience including assessment of student learning
  • Experience with student discipline and Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS).
  • Considerable knowledge of the techniques and practices of effective communication and interactive behavior.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.
  • Ability to schedule variable work.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and to develop standard reports from those records.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of social agencies.
  • Skill in counseling/advising students and parents.
  • Ability to plan and conduct training sessions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to ease sensitive relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to gather data, compose correspondence, and generate reports on a computer using spreadsheets, MS Word, charts and tables as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Physical Requirements:  Must be physically able to sit, stand, walk and drive a car.  Must be able to lift boxes up to 10 pounds.  Physical demand requirements are for Light Work. 

Interpersonal Communication:  Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.  Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants. 

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms.  Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and supply requisitions using prescribed format.

Reasoning Ability: Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.

 

Intelligence:  Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form. 

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English.

Numerical Aptitude:  Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide and multiply. 

Motor Coordination:  Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a keyboard.  Ability to drive an automobile. 

Interpersonal Temperament:  Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress. 

Physical Communications:  Requires the ability to talk, see and hear.  Must be able to communicate via telephone.

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Must hold/be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License. Min. requirement Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited teacher education program;  Teaching experience required.
