Job Overview:

The Middle School Exploratory Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating instructional lessons for students in grades 6-8. The role focuses on providing students with opportunities to explore a range of subject areas that may include (Biomedical Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Digital Design, Animation, STEM, Child Development, Interior Design, Marketing, and more). The teacher will engage students through creative, hands-on learning experiences and foster the development of essential skills that contribute to lifelong learning and future career success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Delivery:
    • Develop and deliver engaging, research-based lessons that align with North Carolina State Standards and curriculum frameworks.
    • Use a variety of teaching methods, including direct instruction, collaborative activities, project-based learning, and experiential education.
    • Integrate technology effectively to enhance learning and engagement.
    • Foster a classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and critical thinking.
  2. Curriculum and Assessment:
    • Collaborate with colleagues to align instructional practices and curriculum with North Carolina’s Essential Standards for middle school exploratory courses.
    • Develop and implement formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and provide feedback for improvement.
    • Adjust teaching methods and content to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with disabilities or language barriers.
  3. Classroom Management:
    • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning and exploration.
    • Implement and enforce school policies related to student behavior and discipline, ensuring a safe and supportive learning space for all students.
    • Promote student engagement and ownership of their learning by establishing clear expectations and providing consistent feedback.
  4. Professional Development and Collaboration:
    • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices, educational trends, and state standards.
    • Work collaboratively with other faculty members, administration, and support staff to share resources, strategies, and insights that improve student outcomes.
    • Participate in school committees, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-related activities to support the overall educational mission.
  5. Student-Centered Approach:
    • Establish positive relationships with students, fostering their social, emotional, and academic growth.
    • Encourage the development of skills such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and time management.
    • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the varying academic, cultural, and social needs of students.
  6. Compliance with State Standards and Policies:
    • Ensure that all teaching practices adhere to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) standards, including those related to curriculum, assessment, and student data.
    • Participate in the evaluation process as required by the school and state, including self-assessments and reflection on teaching practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • Certification in Teaching (North Carolina Professional Educator License) for middle school grades (6-8).
    • Candidates must have or be eligible for a CTE license in any area.
  • Experience:
    • Previous teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred, but not required.
    • Experience in designing and implementing project-based or hands-on learning experiences is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards for middle school exploratory subjects.
    • Ability to use formative and summative assessments to monitor and support student growth.
    • Proficient in using technology in the classroom for instruction, assessment, and communication.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Current criminal background check and clearance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift materials, and perform tasks that involve a moderate degree of physical activity (e.g., setting up classroom materials, assisting with student activities, etc.).
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
